Good-Bye Holiday Isle

Sadly, after a good long run at Holiday Isle in Islamorada, FL, Unique Arts and Crafts and Unique Elements have vacated the premises. Ron Johnson, owner and featured jewelry artist, has taken to the road and to the World Wide Web.

Ron first set up his booth at the end of Bimini Row on the marina pennisula in the mid-eighties. A folding table, BIG umbrella and a hand full of stones and wire was all it took to get him going. It seems he has now gone full circle; he now uses a tent and three folding tables to take with him to arts and craft shows around Florida and beyond.

Ron is grateful to be an invited featured artist at Islamorada's Worldwide Sportsman/Bass Pro Shops. He can be found there at the bow of Hemmingway's boat, twisting wire instead of a fishing reel. Although, he does have a stunning 14k white and yellow gold fishing reel pendant which he may be demonstrating its ability to turn due to it's 27 moving parts!

Unique Elements; an Introduction

Unique Elements is a new concept gallery located at Holiday Isle Resort and Mariana in Islamorada, Florida. The gallery, a co-committed endeavor of local jewelry artists, Ron Johnson and Jody Morse, features hand crafted creations in all mediums. Local, south Floridian and national artists make their art work available to world class visitors and locals alike.

The concept was born in conjunction with a much larger production the team is conjourning up. Ron and Jody are currently working with Holiday Isle to revitalize Bimini Row Shops to restore the Bohemian feel that's been so missed at the Isle. It is their intention to create a 7 day art event in the unoccupied units along the dockside pennisula. Artists from around the country will have the opportunity to "set up shop" at the Isle, inside a store front or kiosk and remain for a minimum of 7 days. This is a great concept because it is a low committal way for artists to have a presence at the popular resort destination. When the artists is not 'in residence" they can consign pieces to the gallery to maintain a continous representation.

This project is sure to add to the cultural value of Islamorada by inviting quality artists to the area. The continously rotating participants will also appeal to the "non-partier" to partake of Holdiay Isle's many admenitites on a regular basis. The property is home to the "World Famous Tiki Bar" but also features live afternoon Reggae music on the beach, a sandy beach and swimming pools; all of which is open to the public. In the evening the shops are thriving as the after dinner crowd strolls down Bimini Row to walk off their desserts. When the rock-n-roll band in the Tiki Bar takes a break, the dancers cool off in the ocean breeze blowing through the shops.
